Bio

Blake Boyd is an artist who masterfully blends ancient techniques with contemporary themes. Trained in the pre-Renaissance method of clay (bole) and water gilding during a fifteen-year apprenticeship, Boyd has developed his own innovative approach. He applies thirty-five layers of clay, sands them smooth, and etches imagery into gold leaf before sealing the piece with an automotive clear coat.

Boyd’s work draws on historical references, pop culture, fairytales, dream-states, and the occult. Disney, a recurring theme in his art, stems from his childhood connection to the brand, with family members working at Disneyworld, which opened on his first birthday. Boyd has also been mentored by members of the Warhol Factory and filmmaker Kenneth Anger, influences that continue to shape his unique artistic vision.
