“Zombie Katrina” was a Polaroid project that Boyd conceived in November 2011 after photographing Larry King. Boyd had the idea to photograph King as a zombie, and hired a make-up and prop artist, Brian Fulk, to work on a cross country project. Boyd wanted a more campy, fine arts version of “Louisiana Cereal”. The project references Boyd's favourite horror film,

The Shining, along with Shaun of the Dead. It also references the road trip of Jack Kerouac’s On the Road.
