Andy Clone is a performance art character that Boyd created in 1998. The character referenced Andy Warhol creating a robot of himself to live on beyond his death. After Warhol's death, the Warhol Foundation didn't permit the robot to continue. Boyd created the character, so that Warhol could live into the 21st Century. Originally wearing a store bought wig and black vinyl jacket, Boyd perfected the character over the next year, making a copy of a mid Silver Factory era Warhol, with a custom silver wig, leather biker jacket, and signature black and white striped shirt. Billy Name and Taylor Mead were early contributors. Artist, Andres Serrano, took a series of portraits of Boyd as Andy Clone with Taylor Mead, used for an article in Honcho magazine.
