“Swan Song” opened at Arthur Roger Project on May 5, 2007. The exhibition consisted of bole (clay) and gilded paintings of swans and rabbits. The inspiration for the show came from Boyd’s interest in the story of The Ugly Duckling and a trip he took with his wife, Ginette Bone, to her hometown of St Albans, England in the summer of 2005. The couple went to Verulamium Lake, where they witnessed bevies of swans live by the water. Four weeks after the visit, New Orleans was hit by Hurricane Katrina. Boyd noted that, in the wake of the hurricane, Katrina was often portrayed in the media as New Orleans’ “swan song,” its final act as a city.
