“London Overground” was a Polaroid project Boyd began in 2008 and shot over a ten year period. Boyd considers this series the sequel to his “London Underground” project (1993-1997), with the subjects photographed above ground instead of in the London tube stations. Boyd decided to do the project around 2005, when he began spending extensive time in the UK with his British girlfriend, eventually wife, Ginette Bone. Through Bone, Boyd became much more immersed in British culture and wanted a more expansive project than “London Underground.” Boyd re-photographed some subjects from “London Underground,” which included many members of the YBA movement, as well as some new subjects, such as the artist Gary Hume.
