The “Holly Woodlawn” Polaroid project was one of the last major Polaroid projects for Boyd. Originally, Woodlawn was meant to be the subject of Boyd’s next photobooth project after London Underground, in the late 1990s. Holly was part of Andy Warhol’s Factory in its second location, and she is referenced in the opening lines of Lou Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side”. Woodlawn and Boyd made plans for her to come to New Orleans to execute the documentation, but lack of funds and the disappearance of colour chemical photobooths prevented the project from happening. Two decades later, Boyd revisited and refined the idea, this time focusing solely on Supergirl, in reference to Boyd’s first plans for Taylor Mead as Superman. The project, which includes over 100 portraits, was shot at Woodlawn’s home in West Hollywood.
